How to give read/write permission to a folder in linux to a user?

Step 1 : Open your Terminal .

Step 2 : Login to your Server using SSH .

Step 3 : If you have already create the user then follow these steps else Click here to create new user.

Step 4 : Depends what you mean ‘full permissions’. If you want a user to have full read and write access to all files and directories in that directory Than use the commands below .

chown -R username /path/to/your/directory
chmod -R u+rX /path/to/your/directory

Note :

First command makes the user owner of the directory.

And Second command gives full read and access permission , r – gives read permission and x – gives execute permission.
